How it all started

I grew up in a home filled with fabric, color, and creativity. My mother is a seamstress and from my early years I have memories of hand stitching clothes for my dolls and making pillows out of old t-shirts. There were always plenty of fabric scrap to be imaginative with. It wasn’t until my adulthood that I explored the plethora of fabric that I had accumulated over the years and applied it to canvas. I am a self-taught mixed media artist who focuses on the experience of being a creator and human. My work strives to push boundaries and to creatively connect that which seems unconnected. There is a spiritual thread that runs between all things; I look for that bit of magic and I try to make it something my eyes can experience.

Representation matters. Black lives matter. Black stories matter.

I’m attracted to spiritual societies...[spirituality] seems like a means of survival in a world you can’t always understand.
